Cardinals in winter
Cardinals are spectacular looking birds. They stay with us all year round and their bright colour does not fade in winter. The female is brown with red accents and the male is a bright red.
During my walk yesterday morning, I noticed two pairs of cardinals flying around playfully in dense tree foliage. I initially thought it was two cardinals and two large sparrows, not knowing then that female cardinals are brown.
The brilliance of their colour coupled with the energy on display made me understand why these birds inspire so many people to start bird watching.
