He's not Chinese; he's Canadian

My children attend a school that reflects Toronto's multicultural makeup.

A child named Kai attends their school. Kai's parents are from China but Kai was born in Canada. When one of my sons said "Kai is Chinese" my other son said "He is not Chinese; he is Canadian." I found it a profound statement.

If you are generally in favour of Canada's immigration policy, those sorts of statements from the mouths of nine year olds will hearten you.
