Year of the Sheep, Ram or Goat?

Chinese New Year is huge. There are over 1.3 billion people in China and most of them want to celebrate the new year by returning to their home village. The number of people travelling by train alone over the seven day holiday is almost equal to the entire population of the United States.

There is a debate this year because the Chinese character denoting the animal for 2015 can mean goat, sheep or ram. The most popular choice is goat followed closely by sheep. Ram is way behind. Apparently the last year of the goat was 2003.

For the 1.5 million Chinese in Canada, the past few days have been a time for celebration, always a positive objective. Whether it is "baaa" or "meh" or a bleating sound that is heard, let's hope it is a happy new year to all.
