NHL Draft

For the past 52 years, NHL teams have been drafting new players through the NHL Entry Draft. This year's event is scheduled for tonight and tomorrow night.

The 14 NHL teams that did not make the playoffs are entitled to the first 14 draft choices, with exact order determined via a weighted lottery system. This year Edmonton has first pick because of their dismal past season.

There are 30 players to be selected tonight. All North American players must be between the ages of 18 and 20 and any age European players are eligible assuming they have never played in the NHL before. The top prospect this year is Connor McDavid and Edmonton is expected to choose him. NHL Central Scouting has ranked a total of 370 players. Rounding out the top ten are Mikko Rantanen, Jack Eichel, Noah Hanifin, Dylan Strome, Lawson Crouse, Mitchell Marner, Mackenzie Blackwood, Gabriel Carlsson and Jacob Larsson.

It will be a night these kids have been dreaming of for many years.
