The Calgary Stampede
The Calgary Stampede starts today.
Billed as the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, the Calgary Stampede has been running yearly since 1923. Known best for its rodeo, it is a huge outdoor party. A large parade kicks off the 10-day event. There are numerous country stars performing music shows and concerts. There is a large midway and many festivals that people can enjoy. Farming contests and exhibitions run throughout along with aboriginal exhibitions and some pretty intense chuckwagon racing.
Everyone in Calgary wears cowboy boots and blue jeans during the Stampede, including lawyers, doctors and accountants. There is lots of drinking and partying with many friends meeting for drinks and dinner at Stampede events. Over 1 million tourists pour into Calgary for the event, almost doubling the population.
The weather is projected to be primarily hot and sunny, so it should be a great 10 days.
