Candy Canes
Sticky, sweet, sugary...my toddler's hands were all of those things yesterday.
The candy cane was to blame. Hard candy dates back to the Renaissance period where initially it was used for medicinal purposes, then quickly expanded when the effect on children was discovered. The candy cane itself was formed around 1900 when someone decided to put a hook on the end of the hard candy stick so it could be hooked onto church pews or Christmas trees as treats for children.
115 years later it is still doing its job.
