Winter Solstice


Yesterday was the shortest day of the year.

I used to find Winter Solstice depressing, given the lack of sunlight and the dark mornings and dark evenings. That is until my mom gave me a totally new perspective on Winter Solstice. She said she always finds Summer Solstice depressing because she knows that every day thereafter for the next six months is going to be shorter than the one before. The flip side of this is that Winter Solstice is an optimistic day because every day thereafter for the next six months is going to be longer than the one before.

I am embracing her logic and thus looking forward to enjoying the few minutes of extra sunlight today and every day thereafter for the next six months. Here comes the sun...
