Winter Weather

In Toronto a common topic of conversation is the weather.

In Manhattan, the city is a constant companion, impacting its residents lives as a separate force on an ongoing basis. In Toronto, it is the weather that is constantly impacting its residents lives. All year round, more so in winter, we talk about the weather.

This winter, thus far, has been incredibly mild and quite beautiful. Everyone has been talking about it and most are grateful for the lack of cold weather and snow thus far. My husband is in the minority. He wants cold weather so the kids can play shinny all day long. He was most disappointed with the weather on Christmas Eve day because the outdoor ice rinks were slushy. I in turn was celebrating heading out in only a hoody.

Like Jack Spratt and his opposite wife, the weather last night merited opposing reactions in our household. I'm now praying for rain.
