Alexander Ovechkin is a phenom.
Russian born, 30 years old, 6' 3", 239 pounds, the Washington Capitals' star surpassed the 500th goal mark in typical showman style with a fabulous rocket shot against the Senators on Sunday. He followed that up with his 501st goal on the same day, another spectacular one.
Enamored with hockey from the age of 2, he has one of the hardest shots in the NHL. Physical, tough and flamboyant, he scored two goals in his first NHL game in 2005. He is the face of the Washington Capitals, having signed a multi-year contract that nets him $9.5 million a year.
With his never-say-die attitude, his propensity for hard work and his big personality, he deserves his success.
