

Damp and Cold
In Canada we so look forward to spring. Then it comes and we become cold and damp every time it rains. Yet it feels better than the harsh, bone chilling winter...anything would. My boys and my baby accompanied me to the grocery store early this morning. My eldest daughter - probably the smartest - took advantage of the fact it was the weekend and slept in. We walked in the rain; bought milk, fruit and eggs; and walked back home. We were damp and cold by the time we arrive


Keep the Toronto Air Show
Canada is a marvelous multi cultural country where sensitivity to newcomers is part of the urban personality, but a discussion about cancelling the air show because it reminds some new immigrants of war is unsupportable. My children absolutely loved the air show. They watched it on Sunday from the CNE and considered it a demonstration of courage and teamwork while inspiring awe for the pilots and their crew who work so hard to become so skilled at flying. He's not Chinese; he's Canadian
My children attend a school that reflects Toronto's multicultural makeup. A child named Kai attends their school. Kai's parents are from China but Kai was born in Canada. When one of my sons said "Kai is Chinese" my other son said "He is not Chinese; he is Canadian." I found it a profound statement. If you are generally in favour of Canada's immigration policy, those sorts of statements from the mouths of nine year olds will hearten you. #multicultural #kai #china #canada


First snowfall of the season
Yesterday was the first snowfall of the season: fluffy, white, still above freezing, blanketing the leaves on the ground with a clean carpet. In Canada, we marvel at the first snowfall of the season while concurrently dreading the bulky winter coats, freezing skin, and never being able to completely warm up that we know is coming.
